FEATURING

Joey Ryan

JOEY RYAN
Joey Ryan grew up idolizing wrestlers in the1980s -- from Hulk Hogan to Jake "The Snake" Roberts -- so he chased his dreams and became one of the biggest, sleaziest, and most disgusting bad-boy wrestlers in the business today. But in a world where professional wrestlers have become more like costumed MMA fighters, can a character like Joey Ryan survive outside of Lucha VaVoom?

MARAWA THE AMAZING
Powerful, beautiful, and holder of 12 world records for hula hooping, Marawa the Amazing has a hard time setting limits for herself. Instead of choosing one of the hula hooping routines that scored her international fame on Arab's Got Talent, Britain's Got Talent, and America’s Got Talent, she’s bringing in a new act: rollerskating in the ring... while busting a piñata… in the air. Here’s hoping everything goes as planned.

Marawa The Amazing
Cassrando el Exotico

CASSANDRO EL EXOTICO
Cassandro el Exotico is a paradox: a queer performer who’s become a superstar in the hyper-masculine worlds of Lucha Libre wrestling and Latino culture. But at 48 and after years of high-impact wrestling has taken a toll on his body, Cassandro finds himself at a crossroads. Should he continue fighting to be the "Queen of the Ring" and risk permanently damaging his body, or face a retirement where he may be forgotten forever?

KARIS WILDE
With her sleek body and sensual moves, genderqueer performer Karis Wilde knows how to turn on a crowd. When she enters the ring at Lucha VaVoom and delivers the ultimate striptease, she easily disrupts the audience's heteronormative expectations, shattering them in the most fantastic way possible. The risk? That in this world of macho Mexican wrestling someone might turn on her in a heartbeat.

Rita D'Albert

RITA D'ALBERT
One of the two masterminds behind Lucha VaVoom, Rita D’Albert is the founding burlesque dancer and public face for the show. Though a seasoned producer and performer for both Lucha VaVoom and mainstream Hollywood events, things seldom go smoothly when dealing with this many personalities… especially when her father unexpectedly arrives for one of the performances.

VIOLET CHACHKI

Winner of RuPaul's Drag Race season seven, Violet Chachki is also one of Lucha VaVoom's star aerialists. Like the audience, she’s an outsider to this world, but through her performances she connects the dots between drag performers, Lucha Libre wrestlers, burlesque dancers, and circus artists -- and how they all come together to make one of the craziest "found families" ever assembled.

From the composer, David Hlebo: Eclecticism in art and in life is such a beautiful concept... The score for 'Lucha' is extremely eclectic... many musical genres and time periods are on display here... The movie has multiple performers/artists that wind up revealing their own commitment to eclecticism... Eclecticism is not concerned about submission to rules or doctrines but tries to synthesize multiple concepts to create something unique... As a little boy who so enjoyed listening and absorbing a myriad of musical styles that were ever evolving, this film confirms the fluidity of human nature... The goal here was to capture the essence of "Lucha VaVoom" in music… ”Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life.” - Oscar Wilde
